MENDAKI is a one of the many self-help groups in Singapore committed to helping and serving the less fortunate. Established 30 years ago by the Malay Community leaders together with the government, they aim to navigate, empower and position the Malay/Muslim community in Singapore’s society. With core values of Integrity, quality, teamwork, commitment and innovation, MENDAKI focuses mainly on educating the disadvantaged by providing tuition schemes for primary, secondary and tertiary students. Scholarships and bursaries will also be awarded to those who perform well academically. Apart from their education schemes, MENDAKI also provides programmes for youths and families like parenting skills workshops and financial literacy workshops. Career opportunities such as training the workforce with necessary skills needed for employment into mainstream jobs and job matching services can also be found at MENDAKI.
MENDAKI's logo captures the essence of its efforts to uplift the underprivileged and put them on a course for excellence. At its core is the stylistic rendition of the Quranic term IQRA which means "Read!". It was the first word revealed by Allah to Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and advocates the pursuit of knowledge. The vibrant yellow is the ray of new beginnings in perpetuity. Blue denotes the globe depicting the community's desire to reach out to the world.
