The Society of Prevention for Cruelty of Animals is a charity organisation dedicated to promoting animal welfare. The SPCA aims to promote and encourage kindness towards all animals including birds and also( as its charity name states), to prevent cruelty and abuse of animals and pets. It is not government funded and thus relies heavily on public donations and whole-heartedly welcomes volunteers willing to help champion their cause.
Approximately 600 pets and strays are received each month. About 90 of them are usually lost dogs which are advertised in an effort to help locate their respective owners.
The SPCA provides various animal welfare services for the community such as 24 hour emergency clinic for sick, injured and vulnerable animals, lost and found pets service, animal shelter for abandoned or abused pets and animals, to name a few out of the several charitable services within the purview of the society. The SPCA is tireless in its continual quest to raise awareness of and to educate the public about the consequences of cruelty to animals. It has held many educational programmes in schools to advocate humane treatment of animals.
